Patina as time

Why we leave our bronze outside for three weeks — and what weather has to do with the colour of a vase.

Patina is the only colour the atelier does not control. We can decide the alloy, the temperature, the direction of the hammer — but the colour belongs to time.

For three weeks, every bronze piece in the Origins collection was left in the open courtyard of the atelier. It rained on it. It was touched by the first frost of November. The copper in the alloy began its slow conversation with the air.

When we brought the pieces back inside, none of them looked the way we expected. Each one had been written on by a season.
